Direct Flight to Link Bulgarian Black Sea Capital, London
Category: General newsBritish Airways will launch a new summer route from Bulgaria to the United Kingdom in 2006 by introducing a two times weekly service from Varna to London.
The new flights will operate from Varna airport to London Gatwick airport every Wednesday and Saturday. These flights will be operated by Boeing 737-400 aircraft and will be available till the end of October 2006.
The further expansion of British Airways services in Bulgaria demonstrates the company's dedication to the rapidly developing aviation market and tourism industry in Bulgaria. -
New Airport for Primorsko
Category: General newsResort firm Albena AD has started outfitting its airport in Primorsko, 55 km south of Bourgas, after securing an aviation permit from the Civil Aviation Administration. The 900-by-30 m airstrip can accommodate aircraft with up to 12 seats. Another 300 m could be added to the runway next year. The site of the 1.2 mln lev facility will incorporate filling and weather stations, a fuel tank, a hangar and a hotel. Albena has already launched an airport near Elin Pelin and will begin the construction in the fall of another airport on a 25 ha site located 3 km from the Albena resort.

New Road to Borovets Resort Planned
Category: General newsThe town of Samokov, located near the resort of Borovets in the Rila Mountain, is planning to build a 17-kilometer road, to be funded by European funds.
It will be a shortcut between the village of Gutsal and Samokov and will serve as a roundabout road to the resort of Borovets, mayor Anguel Nikolov announced.
Currently the whole traffic from Southeastern Bulgaria to the town of Plovdiv crosses the center of the resort.

Bansko Summer Jazz

Following hot on the heels of this weekend's July Evening Disco Rock Concert, is the eighth International Bansko Jazz Festival. From August 8 to 14, the mountain town will host bands from across Europe. The festival has several aims, say it's organisers: to bring jazz "the music of the free people" to the public, to provide a stage for talented Bulgarian musicians, and to show the "summer charm" of the beautiful, ancient town of Bansko, more usually known in its winter incarnation as a ski-resort.

Thousands of Fans Welcome Deep Purple
Category: General newsSixteen thousand fans will besiege Kavarna for the concert of Deep Purple tomorrow. Buses full of Romanian and Turkish devotees are arriving in the Bulgarian seaside resort. The musicians arrived at 3 a.m. because they wanted to spend the day at the beach, said mayor of Kavarna Tsonko Tzonev. He welcomed the legendary band at Varna airport. The day before Deep Purple played in Skopje. Four thousand tickets were sold for the concert in Macedonia.

Record Growth for Bulgaria's Ski Resorts
Category: General newsBulgarias winter resorts registered the highest growth of all ski destinations in the world during the 2004-2005 season, reports the British operator Crystal Ski.
The growth is up from 2.1% to 2.8%. The low prices of the Bulgarian winter resorts attract novice skiers - a positive sign for Bulgaria, states the report.
The global ski market increased by 3.8% in 2004/2005. France ranks first with 36,1% of the market, Austria is 2nd with 20,1 %, followed by Italy - 15,7%, and Andorra - 13,7%. -

Ski Legend Girardelli to Open Sports Centre in Bansko
Category: General newsSki legend Marc Girardelli and the municipality of Bulgaria's mountain resort Bansko will establish a joint venture for the creation of a major sports club in the town.
Nearly EUR 8 M will be invested in "Girardelli Sport Centre". The new sports centre will be constructed on an area of 9 decares.
Bansko deputy mayor Ivaylo Rahov explained that the idea behind the sports centre is to establish an elite school for talented children skiers. In the new sports academy world sports stars will be invited to teach the new talents. -
World-Famous DJs to Shake Bulgarian Seaside
Category: General newsTechno music DJ legends Josh Wink and Omid 16b will rock Bulgarian Sunny Beach resort.
The Metropolis techno movement has invited the musicians to perform July 23 on the Cacao Beach in the Black Sea resort. The party under the motto "Driven to Heaven" will mark the beginning of the "true summer," Metropolis has announced.
The greatest attraction at the event will be the unique electric illumination show. The beach will be illuminated both from above and from below. At a certain point, the sea itself will light up.
The electric lightning will not harm the sea flora and fauna, Metropolis officials promised.
Wink, who has performed in Bulgaria before, will spend a couple of days at the Bulgarian seaside instead of staying in Spain. -

The tomb of a senior Bulgarian aristocrat who had probably lived between VII and IX century was discovered near the town of Pliska, northeastern Bulgaria. Pliska was the capital of the first Bulgarian kingdom - 681-893 AD.
