Bulgaria Invests EUR 4.712 Billion in Road and Railroad Reconstruction

"By 2015, Bulgaria will invest 4.712 billion euro in reconstruction of this country's infrastructure. The funds for in reconstruction of the road network will amount to 1.725 billion euro and the rest transport sectors will be funded with 1.188 billion euro," said Petar Mutafchiev, Minister of Transport, at the opening of the meeting of the transport ministers of the countries members of the Central European Initiative, held near the coastal city of Varna.
Among Bulgaria's priorities in the transport sector are corridors 7, 8 and 10, as well as the construction of the Trakia, Maritsa, Hemus and Struma highways. Serious negotiations concerning the railroads and motorways of transport corridor 8 are going on. The corridor will connect the Caucasian region with the Black Sea region and northern Italy. The project will be mainly financed by Italy and the EU.
Macedonia's Transport Minister Mile Janakievski said this would be the project of the millennium.
