Pamporovo: Sun, Ski and Surprises

Found in year 1933, Pamporovo is situated 250 kilometers in southeastern direction of Sofia, 80 kilometers south of Plovdiv and 11 kilometers north of Smolyan. The ski resort is 1650 meters above the sea level at the foot of Snejanka peak (1926meters). The attractive 156 meters tall TV tower is build on the top of the peak and a starting point for many ski pistes to the resort and the Smolyan lakes. The total length of the ski pistes is 18 kilometers.

A lot of hotels, trade centers, restaurants, bars, service and entertainment centers, ski- equipments and ski-pistes have been built through the years. Now the hotels in Pamporovo are over twenty with up to 7 500 beds. Some of the most famous hotels are Perelik, Murgavetc, Prespa, Finland, Rojen, Snejanka, Orpheus and Panorama - all named after the highest peaks in the Rodopi mountain. The resort villages Stoikite, the ethnographic complex Shiroka Laka, the traditional villages of Progled and Momcilovci are situated nearby Pamporovo and also provide opportunities for skiing. 
 
 There are several pistes for beginners, as well as several drill grounds with mini drags. The steep-pistes for advanced skiers are also presented, the Wall being the most famous one. For the ski run and biathlon lovers there are nice pistes around Snejanka peak. The several ski schools in Pamporovo provide highly qualified teachers. There are around 15 ski cloak rooms close to the pistes and the hotels with 8 000 sets of modern ski and snowboard equipment.
International and national competitions for ski alpine disciplines are taking place there. Very popular on the pistes lately is the winter mountain bike. 
Pamporovo offers great conditions for the free style snowboarders. The local snowboard club built a half pipe on Snejanka piste, which is 150 meters long and 3 meters high walls. Every year Pamporovo hosts the best free style competitions in Bulgaria. Several snow board schools can be found by Studenest chalet.

The nightlife in Pamporovo offers great opportunities for entertainment. Almost in every hotel, there is a night club or disco. The most popular is the “The White Deer” in the trade center. The restaurant “Chevarmeto” is one of the best in the resort. It is build and furnished in old Rhodopian style and offers traditional cuisine and drinks as well as the famous Rhodopian chevarme. The restaurant offers to its guests entertaining programme. 
 
 However, the most interesting place for all tourists is the panoramic bar on the Snejanka tower on 2030 meters above the sea level. The view in a clear day is fabulous. The whole resort complex can be seen and all the ski pistes. The Smolyan terrace with the Smolyan lakes can be seen on the sought. To the west, people can see a beautiful panoramic view towards Rila and Pirin, the peak of Golqm Perelik, Stoikite and Gela villages. To the north is revealed a lovely view to the Balkan mountain range and to the east - the Rojen plateau, the astronomic observatory and the slopes of the Eastern Rhodopi.
