Retailers time new store openings in run-up to holiday season

Four Bulgarian retailers have announced over the last couple of days the rollout or the launch of construction of a batch of new outlets.

The new additions are all sited in regional cities and should boost domestic retail sales during the upcoming holiday season.

Home appliances and consumer electronics retailer Technopolis opened a new store in Kyustendil, Western Bulgaria, at a cost of 5 mln levs. The 2,000 sq m outlet is the company's 15th and the third opening for the past two months.

Another local electronics retailer, Technomarket, inaugurated an outlet in Dimitrovgrad in partnership with Austrian retailer Billa. This is the sixth local joint outlet of the two partners which each have 29 and 25 stand-alone local outlets in addition. Billa has 1,200 sq m of retail floor area in the Dimitrovgrad outlet while Technomarket occupies 1,500 sq m.

Metro Cash&Carry, the German self-service wholesale warehouses, said it will invest over 30 mln levs in a new store in Veliko Tarnovo, Northern Bulgaria. When it opens in early 2008, the outlet, with a retail floor area of 7,000 sq m, will be the ninth Metro store in Bulgaria.(Dnevnik)
